Baby faces life with one arm after nurse's error
A SIX-MONTH-OLD baby may have its arm amputated after a nurse forgot to remove a bandage for 36 hours in central China's Henan Province.
The baby is being treated at No.1 Hospital of Zhengzhou University where doctors said amputation is still possible, today's Dahe Daily reported.
The baby's grandfather took it to Fangcheng County People's Hospital in Nanyang City with diarrhea on February 3, he told the newspaper, since its parents were both mentally retarded.
A nurse placed a bandage on its arm before giving the baby an injection the next morning, but the blood vessels were too thin and she instead gave the jab in the baby's head.
But she forgot to remove the binding, the report said, and the grandfather only called for help when the baby's arm was turning black.
Fangcheng hospital promised to shoulder all the medical costs and said staff have been punished.
