Baby faces loss of arm

A BABY may have to undergo an arm amputation after a nurse forgot to remove a bandage for 36 hours in central China's Henan Province.

The baby, aged six months, was being treated at No.1 Hospital of Zhengzhou University, yesterday's Dahe Daily reported. The hospital has not released the sex of the infant.

A grandfather took the baby to Fangcheng County People's Hospital in Nanyang City suffering from diarrhea on February 3, he told the newspaper. He said the baby's parents were both mentally impaired.

A nurse placed a bandage on the baby's arm the next morning, but forgot to remove it, the report said.

The arm turned black and the baby was transferred to the Zhengzhou hospital.

Fangcheng hospital promised to cover all medical costs and has penalized offending staff members.

The baby has already undergone surgery but is still in danger of losing the arm.
