Balcony fall hero hailed 'most handsome father'
A MAN who broke a teenager's fall from a fifth floor balcony with his chest has been hailed a hero.
Xie Shangwu took the full impact of the 50 kilogram youth who fell from an apartment in Harbin, capital city of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, last Friday, Harbin Daily reported yesterday.
Web users dubbed 28-year-old Xie "the most handsome father" - a reference to Wu Juping from Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province.
Wu was called "the most beautiful mother" after she broke a toddler's fall last July with her arms.
The 16-year-old who fell in Harbin, Fu Jiawei, suffered bleeding in the brain, a fractured left wrist and bruising, doctors said.
While Fu remained in hospital yesterday, doctors said his injuries were not life-threatening.
Xie, who has a six-year-old daughter, suffered minor chest and back injuries and is resting at home.
He works in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province, and was home the holiday.
Xie told the newspaper that he went to the boy's aid out of a natural impulse.
Last Friday at 8:40am, Fu had been standing on the balcony of his family apartment lighting firecrackers when he fell out of the window.
He managed to cling to the window frame, but his mother, surnamed Gong, was unable to haul him back in.
Xie was driving past and dashed over to help.
At that moment, Fu lost his grip and crashed into Xie's chest. Xie was thrown a meter away by the impact and knocked unconscious.
