Bank chief sacked over sex assault claims

A BANK of China official has been sacked after being accused of sexually assaulting a hotel saleswoman during a party.
The case sparked nationwide outrage via the Internet, fueled by the alleged encouragement of a government official.
The government official has been put under investigation in the wake of the incident in central China's Henan Province.
The Bank of China's branch in Henan's Xinyang has dismissed Min Zhitao as head of its sub-branch in the city's Gushi County.
The disciplinary department of Gushi is investigating Zhang Jiancheng, a deputy director of the county, over his alleged involvement.
Local police are also investigating the allegations.
Min's alleged offence was initially published online and immediately triggered a public uproar.
An online post said Min was invited to join the party on March 25 where four hotel saleswomen and Zhang also attended.
Min attempted to touch three of the women while proposing a toast, it said. When the women rejected his advances, Min pushed one of them, surnamed Chen, to the floor and "roughly touched her breasts and genitals," the post said.
Min then also allegedly banged her head against the floor.
It also said that Zhang saw all this and even suggested that Chen comply with Min.
A local entrepreneur, who visited Chen in hospital, said she had to have four stitches in a head wound.
An insider said Min visited Chen the next day in hospital and offered 60,000 yuan (US$8,790) in compensation, which was refused.
However, one of the women who attended the party, surnamed Xu, said Min had not visited Chen or apologized.
She was unwilling to give more details about what had happened but said it was "unbearable to recall."
