Banknote forgery gang sentenced to prison

NINE people who forged banknotes worth more than 175 million yuan (US$28 million) in southeastern Fujian Province received jail terms from 6 1/2 years to life imprisonment yesterday.

Zhangzhou City Intermediate People's Court also confiscated their forgery tools and illegal income of 150,000 yuan, China News Service reported.

Lin Mujian and his partners hired printing experts in December 2010 to start the fake money business in Zhao'an County.

In January this year, police raided their underground workshop and seized millions of half-finished 100-yuan banknotes, the report said.

The gang was convicted of money forging and its chief members Lin Mujian, Zhu Shunke and Hu Zhenchun were sentenced to life.
