Ban's Syria call as he arrives in Beijing
UN leader Ban Ki-moon called for rapid, unified action by the Security Council over Syria as he arrived in Beijing yesterday as part of a diplomatic push to get Russia and China to back a tougher response to the situation.
Ban's trip comes ahead of a Security Council vote today on sanctions and action to enforce them that could include military force. Russia and China have vetoed previous efforts. Ban is to meet Chinese President Hu Jintao today.
