BEIJING will conduct an investigation into the design and manufacturing process of escalators produced by OTIS and may ask the company to recall its products.
A malfunctioning component led to the loosening of the escalator's drive chain, which caused Tuesday's accident, the city's municipal quality and technical supervision bureau said yesterday. It said OTIS's escalators may need to be recalled if future investigations show flaws in the design or manufacturing.
