Beijing breathing easier ahead of celebrations
BEIJINGERS have breathed excellent air for the past five days after the capital halved the number of vehicles on roads and cut industrial production for the ongoing IAAF World Championships and the upcoming military parade.
The average density of unhealthy PM2.5 particles was only 19.5 micrograms per cubic meter in the capital in the five days from last Thursday, a record low, said Zhang Dawei, head of the capital’s environmental monitoring center.
The density of nitric oxide from vehicle exhausts has also more than halved during morning rush hour.
