BEIJING police have detained a private car owner for 10 days for repeatedly hitting a courier delivery guy after his motorcycle touched his car.

His act was caught on mobile phone video, which when posted online, sparked widespread anger and criticism.

In the video, the car owner surnamed Li can be seen hitting the SF Express delivery guy at least six times after his black Toyota car, that was reversing, touched his motorcycle.

Li, wearing a black shirt, can be seen abusing the courier guy and hitting him. Throughout the incident the delivery guy did not react to the abuse or to the hitting. Instead, some people can be seen trying to calm the car owner.

“I apologized at that time and agreed to compensate him 400 yuan, but he still appeared to be angry,” the courier guy surnamed Feng said. He was later diagnosed with soft tissue contusion.

The video led to widespread public anger against the car owner. The Beijing police took issue of it and launched an investigation.

The courier company, SF Express, wanted criminal charges pressed against the car owner.

Li later regretted his action and offered to compensate Feng.

Earlier, a press officer with the courier company told Shanghai Daily, that “we won’t accept any mediation to protect the legal rights of our employees.”

Wang Wei, the boss of SF Express, also demanded legal punishment against the offender.
