Beijing college makes gambling part of its menstrual study
A Beijing university is looking for female students with a regular menstrual cycle to play gambling games in order to study the influence of the monthly physical change on women's emotion and decision-making.
Volunteers are required to play gambling games on computers before and after each menstrual cycle. They can get 30 yuan (US$4.63) each time and extra rewards based on their performance in the game, according to a post on the website of Beijing Normal University, Beijing Times reported today.
The post has drawn curiosity from students. Some wondered what monthly period has to do with gambling while others questioned if it's appropriate to use gambling games to conduct the study as gambling is banned in China.
"Women experience emotional changes before and after menstrual cycle, which affect their decision making. The gambling game can reflect the change," said Huang Ruiwang, a professor of the university.
Huang said the study had gained approval from the school's ethics committee.
Some 30-40 participants are needed for the study, but so far no one has enrolled for the program, said the person who published the post.
