Beijing doctor saved from knife attack this morning

A woman doctor in Beijing was hacked by an unidentified assailant this morning when she was treating patients in the Peking University People's Hospital around 10:30am.

The assailant escaped after the attack.

Xing Zhimin, a doctor at the hospital's ear-nose-throat department, suffered a gash in the right side of her neck and lost nearly 1,000 milliliters of blood due to a severed vein. But her surgery was successful and she in recovering in the intensive care unit.

The hospital is unclear about the motive and whether the attacker is a hospital patient. It suspended all outpatient services after the attack for security reason.

It is the second brutal knife attack on doctors in three weeks. A young man was arrested for killing one medical intern and seriously injuring three doctors on March 23 in Harbin, capital of northeastern Heilongjiang Province.
