Beijing female passenger allegedly raped by driver sent by car-pooling app
A driver was recently prosecuted by by Beijing Haidian People's Procuratorate on suspicion of raping a passenger who allegedly boarded the car after using Didi car-pooling app, China's largest of its kind, Beijing Morning Post reported Tuesday.
The suspect, surnamed Zheng got a car-pooling request from the victim, Wang, via the app at around 2am and picked her up near Sanlitun an hour later, said the report on July 4.
When the car arrived the destination and Wang was about to pay for the ride, Zheng suddenly locked up the door and intended to rape Wang.
As Wang resisted, Zheng began to strangle her by the neck and slap her on face with threats. Zheng then drove the vehicle to a remote place near east gate of China Agricultural University and raped Wang, the report said.
Wang alarmed police when she got off the car.
Zheng was detained at his home at about 5pm that day, the report said.
