Beijing has new H7N9 bird flu case

HEALTH authorities said yesterday that doctors in Beijing were treating a case of H7N9 bird flu infection.
The 68-year-old patient, surnamed Chen, had been in a hospital in north China’s Hebei Province but was transferred to the capital when her symptoms took a turn for the worse, officials from Beijing’s health commission said.
They said the woman, who lived in the city of Langfang, had no recent contact with diseased poultry.
H7N9 was first reported to have infected humans in China in March 2013. Cases usually occur in winter and spring, and while a large-scale outbreak is unlikely, sporadic infections have been reported.
Two other H7N9 patients, one of whom is also from Langfang, are being treated in neighboring Tianjin City. The other patient is from Tianjin’s Binhai New Area, according to the city’s health commission.
They were admitted to hospital after developing serious pneumonia. Both are said to have been in contact with diseased poultry.
