Beijing hospital refutes superbug rumor
BEIJING Anzhen Hospital denied the online rumor that it had an outbreak of superbugs, saying the rumor was fabricated by a patient's family.
An online post that superbugs had been found in the hospital rattled many nerves yesterday after it appeared on the Internet. It showed photos of people holding a banner in the hospital that read: "The superbug outbreak in Anzhen Hospital has caused many deaths. We demand an answer from hospital authorities!"
The hospital responded that the rumor was created by a patient's family who were having a dispute with the hospital, Xinhua reported today.
The patient had a low immune system and contracted Acinetobacter infection, which had nothing to do with superbugs. The family was not happy with the diagnosis and mediation and spread the rumor in revenge, a hospital official told Xinhua.
