Beijing mulls move to limit new cars
BEIJING is finally considering putting a cap on its fast-growing auto fleet amid the capital's worsening traffic woes.
For the first time, Beijing authorities said they would include car plate control in the city's new traffic plan, which is currently being discussed, today's Beijing Times cited Liu Yumin, deputy director of the Beijing Planning Commission as saying.
Liu revealed no detail about the plan but said the city's top priority is to improve traffic conditions and develop public transportation, which is a long-term solution to Beijing's clogged roads.
More bus lanes will be added and more subways and light rails will be built to attract people to abandon their cars and take public transit system.
