Beijing opens Olympic volleyball beach

THE Olympic Beach Volleyball venue in Beijing has been turned into a bathing beach and will open to the public next month for a carnival, the Beijing Times reported today.

It opened for trial today.

The carnival runs throughout August and many beach volleyball and beach football matches will be featured.

The beach in Zhaoyang Park has a 5,000-square-meter swimming pool and more than 10,000 square meters of beach with sand from Hainan Province. It contains a volleyball court and beach football area.

Visitors are kept cool with water cooling, spraying and shower devices built along a 220-meter corridor.

Swimmers can wash the sand off with automatic sprayers before entering the swimming pool. The water is clean enough to drink and the system uses the water purification technique of the Water Cube swimming venue.

The beach opened today for trial.

Admission will be 80 yuan (US$11.80) per person.

The beach will be open from 9am to 9pm.
