Beijing reports H7N9 flu virus carrier
A four-year-old boy in Beijing was determined to be a carrier of the H7N9 virus today after Beijing health authorities carried out tests on 24 people who had contacts with the father of the first H7N9 patient in Beijing.
The boy, surnamed Zhu, was tested positive for H7N9 flu virus by the Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention last night, but showed no clinical symptoms so far.
Zhu had been transferred to Beijing Ditan Hospital for further medical observation, the Beijing Health Bureau said.
Zhu's parents were said to sell poultry and fish. His neighbor had bought chicken from the family of a seven-year-old girl who was confirmed to be the first H7N9 patient in Beijing, health officials said.
The carrier was discovered after local disease control authorities tested 24 people who raise poultry in a village of Cuigezhuang township, Chaoyang District. So far, only the boy was found to be a virus carrier.
The first patient surnamed Yao, was said to be recovering well at the Ditan Hospital, official said yesterday.
Chinese health authorities said yesterday that the new form of flu is spreading but no evidence showed it can be transmitted through human-to-human contact.
