Beijing surrender plan backfires
POLICE in Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province, have detained and taken a man back to his hometown after he allegedly threw a brick, injuring a worker carrying out demolition work on his home.
He fled to Beijing to surrender himself to the police there, saying he didn't trust local officials.
Police in Hongshan District have taken the suspect, Tong Yihong, from their counterparts in Beijing and kept him in custody on a charge of causing social disorder, reported Beijing News.
Tong, a villager of Hubei Province, went to a public security bureau in Beijing on Saturday to "turn himself in" after throwing a brick at a group of demolition workers - one man was seriously injured in the incident.
Tong said he was shocked after police called his family to notify him of the detention order. Police said a demolition worker had been hit by the brick and was in a?coma and had life-threatening injuries.
Tong said he didn't see anyone get hurt and he hadn't aimed at any specific target.
He said he decided to go to Beijing, where he believed he could be treated fairly.
A spokesperson for Hongshan police, Lei Bo, said they took Tong back because the case was in their jurisdiction.
