Beijing to adopt new parking charges

STARTING tomorrow, most parking lots in Beijing will adopt their charges in line with government standards.

Charges at some downtown lots will reduce from 5 yuan (73 US cents) for half an hour to 4 yuan to attract drivers, today's Beijing News reported.

High prices have deterred many drivers from parking in the downtown area, the newspaper cited an insider as saying.

But prices at 108 parking lots at central business districts of Chaoyang, Yansha and Chaowai will be raised, the newspaper said.

To help parking there, the Chaoyang district plans to add four parking lots with spaces for more than 1,000 vehicles.

Meanwhile, 18 lots with spaces to park 1,445 cars will be added near the capital's prime commercial area Wangfujing, according to the report.
