Beijing to build new Metro line to 2nd airport

BEIJING will build a new, fast subway line to the city’s second airport in Daxing District that will open as soon as the airport is completed in 2018, according to the Beijing News.

The 59.2-kilometer Metro line is expected to be the fastest in Beijing, with a top speed of over 120 kilometers per hour.

Passengers heading to the airport will be able to check their luggage and print boarding passes at the Peony Garden and Caoqiao Metro stations, the report said.

Construction on the line, starting at the Peony Garden Station, is expected to start this year.

The line will run across several of the city’s core areas from south to north with five stations preliminarily planned —Peony Garden, Financial Street, Caoqiao, Nanyuan and the Airport. The line is expected to allow transfers with other Metro lines running east and west.
