Beijing traffic chief's son involved in car plate sales

FRESH clues have emerged that it is the son of the Beijing Traffic Management Bureau chief who embroiled his father in the car plate scandal, today's Chongqing Morning Post said.
Song Jianguo's son and secretary conspired to sell plates to frustrated car buyers who failed to win the car plate lottery for months and the plates they sold cost up to 200,000 yuan (US$32,100) each, sources said.
The bureau issues no more than 20,000 plates a month through lottery but there are more than 1 million applicants.
Officials from the Beijing Transportation Commission and a car industry insider confirmed that Song assisted the official probe into his son's illegal activities, the paper said.
Beijing police yesterday denied media reports that Song was investigated for cheating in car plate lottery.
