Biker who filmed high-speed ride held in Beijing

A MAN who appeared in a viral Internet video riding his motorcycle at speeds of up to 237 kilometers per hour on a Beijing road has been taken into custody, traffic police in the Chinese capital said yesterday.
The biker — identified as a 30-year-old surnamed Pang from southwest China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region — was captured in Nanning, the region’s capital, and sent to Beijing on Saturday.
He was detained for dangerous driving, said a spokesperson for the Beijing Traffic Administrative Bureau.
The footage of his antics was viewed more than 220,000 times on the video-sharing website Youku. It shows Pang completing a circuit of the city’s 37.5-kilometer second ring road in 13 minutes and 43 seconds.
He told media before being taken into custody that he recorded the event in the early hours of August 22.
The top speed he achieved was almost three times the limit for the road, on which motorcycles are banned from the certain lanes. The video also showed him overtaking vehicles at high speed.
Pang claimed his “personal best” for a lap of Beijing’s second ring road was 11 minutes, adding that he had ridden his bike at 270kph in Nanning.
