Bird flu case confirmed
CHINA has confirmed a new human infection of the deadly H7N9 avian influenza virus, the first case this winter in the southern province of Guangdong. A 31-year-old woman surnamed Deng, from Dongguan, was confirmed on Friday to have been infected with the virus, Guangdong’s health and family commission said. The patient is in critical condition and being treated at a hospital in Guangzhou. Since March last year, more than 450 people have been infected with H7N9 bird flu, of whom 175 died.
