Blackmailers faked sex photographs

A COURT in east China's Anhui Province has upheld its prison sentences on two men who blackmailed government officials by fabricating photographs of them having sex with women.

A former school teacher surnamed Hu and an unemployed man surnamed Zhang had been sentenced to seven years and six years and five months by the Intermediate People's Court of Huangshan City.

They had downloaded pictures of officials from government websites and used computer software to create the lewd photographs.

Hu then sent blackmail letters to 48 officials in Jiangxi, Anhui, Sichuan and Hebei provinces, threatening to post the pictures online and send them to disciplinary watchdogs.

Five officials responded, the court heard. A senior official in Hefei, Anhui's capital, transferred 100,000 yuan (US$15,472) to Hu's bank account and, in one month, the pair had received a total of 330,000 yuan.

But some officials called the police and the men were arrested last August. Police also seized more than 100 letters still to be sent.
