Flame in Xinjiang high-rise building put out, no casualties unknown

A fire that erupted at midnight yesterday in a high-rise commercial building in downtown Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, has been put out, and no casualties were reported, police said today.

The flame was put out at 00:14 am today after the 22-story International Trade Mansion at Changjiang Road caught on fire at around 11 pm last night, said an official with the city's fire fighting department.

The fire broke out from an office room beside the elevator equipment room on the top floor, said Peng Weimin, director of the fire brigade of Urumchi.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
