Blogger faked sex diary
A MICROBLOGGER who has attracted more than 260,000 followers by claiming to be a Hangzhou prostitute writing about her antics with customers has turned out to be a 31-year-old married man who plagiarized foreign literature.
The man, surnamed Lin, has been fined 500 yuan (US$80) by Hangzhou police for "disturbing social order" after he uploaded a list of the bogus prostitute's customers.
Police in the provincial capital of Zhejiang traced his home address and paid a surprise visit, to find the famous prostitute was a man.
According to the police, Lin started to write his microblog on Weibo.com in January this year, identifying himself as Ruo Xiao'an, a "young sex worker."
He is a senior editor of a cultural magazine in Zhejiang.
Lin copied foreign literature, translating the works into Chinese and writing one piece a day on the microblog as the "Diary of a Sex Worker."
The diary comprised short sentences, some expressing her feelings as she served her customers, some describing sexual scenes, and some discussing the profession of a Chinese prostitute with other online users.
The diary attracted a following of thousands, many comments dubbing the writer "China's most talented prostitute," while others tried to persuade her to quit being a sex worker and become a writer.
The microblog caught the attention of the police when one article claimed the prostitute had served more than 3,000 customers over the past seven years and named a list of her favorites.
Police found Li's home and caught him in front of a computer in the act fabricating his stories. He told police he published the diary only to become popular online.
