Blood sold illegally in some BJ hospitals
AS some hospitals in Beijing are reporting blood shortages, some people have started a new business selling blood from hired donors to those in urgent need.
The donors, mostly migrant workers or students on a tight budget, were paid about 300 yuan (US$45.2) for 400ml, which the middlemen sell to buyers for 1,300 to 1,600 yuan, reported Beijing Times.
A middleman usually asks a donor to pretend to be the buyer's relative, so that patient can get whatever type of blood he or she needs from the bogus relative.
Beijing Municipal Health Bureau has warned that the illegal business could pose serious danger to patients as many donors cheated about their health status to avoid being disqualified for donation.
