Bo Xilai indicted for bribery, corruption, abuse of power
BO Xilai, former party chief of southwestern Chongqing Municipality, was charged with bribery, corruption and abuse of power, according to Jinan City People's Procuratorate in east China's Shandong Province.
The indictment paper was delivered to the Jinan City Intermediate People's Court today, Xinhua News Agency reported.
Prosecutors accused Bo of using the advantage of his position to seek benefits for others after receiving a huge amount of kickbacks.
He was also said to have embezzled a considerable amount of public funds and abused his power, which resulted in huge losses to the country and people's interests, the report said.
Bo was expelled from the Party and removed from his position in September. His case was then transferred to judicial department.
Bo was also found to have maintained improper sexual relationships with a number of women, central authorities said earlier.
Bo's downfall started when Wang Lijun, former Chongqing police chief and vice mayor, fled to the US Consulate in Chengdu in February 2012, where he revealed that Bo's wife, Bogu Kailai, murdered British businessman Neil Heywood, a death previously listed as accidental.
Bo is said to have tried to hush up the crime, previous media reports said.
Bo's wife was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve on August 20. Wang was jailed for 15-years for initially covering up the murder and other crimes.
