Boat drivers 'negligent'
POLICE are considering manslaughter charges after a university student was killed in a boating accident in Zhejiang Province on Thursday. Another victim is reportedly brain dead.
Ye Fei, a female student from Shanghai Normal University, was killed on Qiandao Lake in Zhejiang's Chun'an County on Dragon Boat Festival. Another female tourist on the same boat was pronounced brain dead on Saturday, according to the Oriental Morning Post. Twelve others were injured.
The local maritime authority said the drivers of the two boats were negligent but Yu Wuming was mainly responsible for the accident. Yu's larger boat ran into the boat Ye was traveling on at 10:45am.
Ye, 22, had gone to Qiandao Lake with a classmate surnamed Lin with boat tickets bought by her father.
Shanghai Normal University has sent a task force to Chun'an to help counsel those involved. "Lin's psychological condition has improved a lot with counseling," said Huang Gang, vice chancellor of the school. "The school psychologists and Lin's teachers will keep following her health condition and provide help."
The two boats belonged to a company that began operating with 174 boats and yachts on April 18, the authority said.
