Body found after chemical explosion
THE death toll in a chemical plant explosion in north China's Shanxi Province climbed to four yesterday after rescuers found the body of a missing worker, the emergency rescue headquarters said.
The blast happened at 7:10pm on Saturday at Yushe Chemical Industry Co Ltd in Yushe County of Jinzhong City.
Three workers died at the scene, two were seriously injured and one was missing.
Another 37 workers were taken to hospital with slight injuries, 34 of them injured by broken window glass.
As of midday yesterday, most of the injured workers had been discharged.
Rescuers worked all night on Saturday to put out the fire and search for the missing worker. The flames had been extinguished by yesterday morning.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Yushe Chemical Industry Co Ltd, which has 2,700 employees, produces PVC, sodium hydroxide and other chemicals.
There were no reports of pollution in the factory area and neighboring villages.
