Body of 5-year-old who fell into open sewer manhole found in Hunan

THE body of a 5-year-old missing after falling through an open manhole into a sewer on Sunday was found where the sewage pipe enters a sewage treatment plant around 4am today after two days of search and rescue work in Liuyang, a city of central Hunan Province.

The incident occurred around 8:40am on Sunday when the toddler was playing on a sidewalk that was being renovated. Workers from Hunan Yongxin Construction Company hadn’t covered the manhole.

By yesterday afternoon, the manhole has been covered with wood and fenced up.
