Boy, 10, cares for paralyzed mum alone
EVERY day, 10-year-old Hu Jishan gets up at 5am to wash his paralyzed mother and help her eat breakfast before setting out for his morning classes.
The boy has been caring for his mother for four years since his father left to make money as a migrant worker, today's Yangtse Evening News reported.
After morning classes at Donghai County Primary School of Lianyungang City in east China's Jiangsu Province, Hu runs back home to help his mother with lunch and washing.
He then rushes back for afternoon classes, and has no time to play because he does his homework in class breaks, the report said.
After school, he cooks a meal and has supper with his mother, telling her about his day at school to cheer her up.
"I know my mother became ill while giving birth to me, so I must take good care of her," he told the newspaper.
Despite his burden, Hu excels at school, principal Han Lei told the Yangtse Evening News.
He was honored with one of Liangyungang's 100 model citizen awards, according to Han.
