Boy falling into 30-meter deep uncovered well saved after 20-hour nonstop digging efforts
A boy who had fallen into a narrow but deep well on the street-side in Xi'an, capital of China's northwest Shaanxi Province, was saved after rescuers spent nearly 20 hours to dig out a new well to reach him.
The toddler, two years and four months old, accidentally fell into the coverless well, which is more than 30 meters deep but only 40 centimeters in diameter, when he's walking back home with his grandfather about 7pm yesterday.
He was rushed to hospital after being rescued early this afternoon.
There were several working wells there near a construction site, some of which are just left there uncovered and without any warning signs.
A video recorder lowered to the bottom of the well by rescuers this morning had brought back scenes of the boy crying for parents down there, the report said.
Fire fighters are still in the process to dig out a 35-meter-deep well next by and create a 3-meter-long link passage to break into the well where the boy was stranded.
