Boy held over murder

A 14-year-old boy in an east China city allegedly beat his landlord to death after he was found when trying to steal her money.

The boy surnamed Wu in Zhejiang Province's Wenling City, sneaked into the 93-year-old landlord Ye Yufeng's house, hoping to steal money on October 31. He allegedly hit her head with an iron bar he was carrying, after the she was woken by his footsteps, the China News Service reported Tuesday.

Ye was found dead on Monday morning, lying in a pool of blood. Wenling police looked for someone who was familiar with the routine of the victim after analyzing the crime site, said Chen Jinjian, a Wenling police officer. Wu was arrested at his home on Monday ?evening.

Wu, a Sichuan Province native, is a grade six student at a migrant school. His class teacher and classmates were shocked to learn he allegedly committed the crime as he it seemed so out of character.

Education experts have warned that teachers must pay extra attention to the psychological health of teenagers and that schools shouldn't judge students merely based on their academic?performance.
