Boy jumped into river missing after haircut failed checks

A 14-YEAR-OLD boy in Zhejiang Province is missing after he apparently jumped into the Fuchun River after having his hair cut three times to meet the school’s appearance requirements, a local newspaper said.

The boy identified as Xiao Hui jumped into the river from a bridge in Tonglu County, Hangzhou on Thursday, leaving his scooter and cell phone.

The boy, who had said he wanted to keep his hair a little long to cover his acne, was told by a teacher to cut it. When it wasn’t short enough, the teacher called his parents to cut it again. He jumped off the bridge after the third cut. He had not been found yet despite search and rescue efforts, the report said.

His middle school planned a check of students’ personal appearance last week.

Boys are not allowed to shave their head or wear long hair over their ears or eyebrows. Neither dyed nor permed hair is permitted.

Xiao Hui took his scooter to the bridge after the third cut, leaving a message for his mom, “I will be your son in my next life.”
