Boy killed, 11 hurt as woman drives car into crowd

A BOY, 7, waiting in front of a mall for his mother was killed and 11 people were injured when a woman trying to show off her driving skills mistook the accelerator for the brake and plowed into a crowd yesterday in east-central Henan Province.

Of the 11 injured, 5 were children and 6 adults, Dahe Daily reported today. The woman, who doesn’t have a driver’s license, was detained for causing a serious car crash, the report said.

The woman, surnamed Ji, in her 30s, wanted to show her husband her excellent driving skills when he failed twice to correctly park the car in a parking space at 9:20am yesterday in Pangdonglai Times Square, a large shopping mall in Xuchang city in Henan Province.

“There was no time for us to get out of the way because the car was speeding too fast,” a victim surnamed Wang said.
