Boy killed because he was 'too smart to sell'

FOUR abductors drowned a 4-year-old boy to death because he was "too smart" to be sold. Their murder came to light 18 years later.

Jiang Yunxian, who was jailed in 2009 for fatally attacking a victim, revealed his past January in his prison that he and three others killed a boy in 1995, in Yuechi County, Sichuan Province, today's Southwest Metropolis Daily reported.

He said he was hiding in a relative's home in Yuechi County in October 1995 when his relative surnamed Zhong and two friends surnamed Liu and Wu brought the boy to the house.

The boy's father was Liu's fellow villager in another county. They decided to sell the boy to a buyer in costal Fujian Province. But 4-year-old was too smart and remembered everything about his family. No family wanted to buy this clever boy, Jiang said.

Since they used up all the money, the four men had no choice but to walk home along the railway. They felt so angry and feared they would be betrayed by the boy, so they bound a stone to the boy and threw him into a river.

Jiang helped police to locate Zhong in his home on February 16. Liu was nabbed on March 15 in Chongqing and Wu on March 27 in Xinjiang.
