Boy stabs grandpa to death over lucky money

TAIWAN police have arrested a 13-year-old boy who allegedly stabbed his grandfather to death for refusing to give him lucky money on Chinese New Year.

Police said they caught the suspect surnamed Hsieh when he was driving his grandpa's car on a highway to escape, the local United Daily News reported yesterday.

The boy told police that he was disappointed when his grandpa showed no intention of giving him the lucky money. He was staying with him for the Chinese New Year in Taiwan's Changhua County.

The boy said his anger grew when his grandpa declined to give him NT$1,000 (US$33) to buy a phone card. He allegedly took a fruit knife and stabbed his grandpa at least 20 times until he died.

He then drove his grandpa's car to run away. The car broke down and police caught him while he was trying to sell the car.
