Boy suffers high fever after toothpick swallowed pierces his organs
A TOOTHPICK pierced the intestinal wall of a boy, 7, and reached his liver but was not found by doctors until a month after he swallowed it, when he developed a high fever and stomachache.
The boy in Putian city of southeast China’s Fujian Province ran a high fever for seven days and complained of aches after swallowing a toothpick a month ago.
The boy’s family took him to see the doctor right after he swallowed the toothpick. But the doctor found no abnormal body after an X-ray and let him go back home without further treatment.
When the boy went back to the hospital, a surgeon found the toothpick had pierced the wall of the boy’s small intestine, and half of the toothpick remained in his bowel and another half hit his liver.
