Boy thrown into the air by fountain jets, injured
A boy was injured after being thrown about 2 meters up into the air by a jet of water from a fountain nozzle in an accident earlier this month in central Hubei Province, local media reported.
The boy bled from his nose and lips as he fell to the ground but did not sustain any further injuries as the accident took place on August 1 at a public plaza the report said.
It has been the second similar case of minors being injured by fountain jets that were reported by media this month.
The plaza workers blamed that although barriers had been placed around the fountain, few people realized the danger and still stepped past the barriers to play around the fountain’s spouts.
It’s unclear yet whether any compensation request would be raised by the boy’s family.
In the previously-reported case, which took place on August 15 in east China’s Shandong Province, an eight-year-old boy was seriously injured when a water jet tore his rectum.
Electric shocks also have caused problems. On August 9, a man and two dogs were electrocuted at a fountain inside a pet park in Beijing designed for dogs to swim.
On July 17, a 13-year-old boy accidentally fell into the fountain pool in Taizhou City in Jiangsu Province. Workers got to him after turning off the electricity but he had been electrocuted and could not be revived.
Repeat fountain accidents this summer nationwide have raised strong public concern over the safety of such facilities and maintenance standards.
