Boys’ bodies ‘polluted reservoir’
A WATER company sued by the family of two boys who drowned in a reservoir is countersuing, claiming their bodies polluted the water, according to yesterday’s Chuncheng Evening News.
The boys’ parents allege a lack of warning signs at the reservoir in Gejiu, a city in southwest China’s Yunnan Province.
Clothes belonging to five primary school students were found by the reservoir near their school on the evening of June 22.
Their bodies were recovered the next day.
Li Luomu and his wife, parents of two of the boys, are suing for 480,000 yuan (US$75,000)compensation.
At a court hearing last Friday, the Gejiu tap water company claimed that notices banning swimming were prominently displayed.
It said it had to spend around 8,900 yuan on disinfecting the water after the incident and demanded that Li pay its costs.
The Gejiu People’s Court has yet to announce a verdict.
