Brand dessert store using rotten fruits closed over food safety

HUI Lau Shan Healthy Dessert, a Hong Kong-based dessert chain store, was ordered to suspend its Changsha outlet by food safety officials in the capital of Hunan Province, according to a report by China National Radio.

The officials found the staff of its Changsha store, which is still in trial operation, used rotten mangos to make mango pudding and sold food items that had passed their expiration dates.

They also found the store has no disinfection cabinet and there are other hygiene problems in the wash of tableware, according to the Changsha Food Safety Administration.

Hui Lau Shan Healthy Dessert made a public apology through its microblog and said it would assist food safety authorities for a follow-up investigation, it's reported.

"There are some problems with the management of this store," said the Hong Kong company. "We will cooperate with the food safety department in investigation and provide training for our employees."
