Brother of disgraced adviser expelled from Party

THE brother of a former top Chinese political adviser has been expelled from the Party and public office, the government said yesterday, paving the way for his prosecution.
Ling Zhengce, ex-deputy head of the political advisory body in north China’s Shanxi Province, is the elder brother of Ling Jihua, a deputy chief of China’s top political advisory body.
Ling Zhengce violated rules of self-discipline by accepting monetary gifts and exploiting his position, as well as seeking benefits for relatives, the Party’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said.
He also “interfered” with an investigation launched in June last year, it said in a statement.
His ejection from the Party is a necessary step in passing the case to judicial authorities.
Ling Jihua was demoted in 2012, after sources said his son was involved in a deadly crash involving a sports car with two female passengers in it, one of them naked.
Authorities said last month that he will face prosecution after an investigation revealed crimes that damaged the Party’s image, such as receiving money and gifts and having affairs with numerous women.
President Xi Jinping has warned that the problem of corruption could threaten the Party’s ability to retain power.
Meanwhile, the former vice governor of south China’s Hainan Province will face public prosecution for taking bribes, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate said yesterday.
During his service in Sichuan, the Ministry of Public Security and Hainan, Ji Wenlin took advantage of his positions to seek benefits for others and demanded and received a huge amount of bribes.
Ji, who was elected vice governor of Hainan Province in 2013, was removed from office and placed under investigation in February last year. He was stripped of his Party membership the following July.
Also yesterday, the SPP said former Vice Minister of Public Security Li Dongsheng has been prosecuted for accepting bribes. The Tianjin People’s Procuratorate filed the case with the city’s No. 2 Intermediate People’s Court after prosecutors completed their investigation.
Li is accused of taking advantage of his posts to seek benefits for others and then accepting “a huge amount” of bribes.
He was formerly a member of the 18th CPC Central Committee. He was removed from his post and expelled from the Party last year.
Both Ji and Li are believed to be allies of Zhou Yongkang, the disgraced ex-security chief who was jailed for life in June.
