Brothers dump poisonous snakes in village
TWO brothers in south China's Guangdong Province have been detained for dumping hundreds of poisonous snakes at the door of a population official in revenge over a family planning dispute.
The snakes sparked panic in Guantang Village of Guangdong Province's Zengcheng City, with some people taking them as a sign of a possible earthquake, today's Information Times newspaper reported.
Villagers have collected most of the snakes and no injuries have been reported so far.
The snakes were found last Saturday in front of the home of the village's women's committee dean Guo Jiqing.
Police found that brothers Guo Gongwei, 31, and Guo Gongtian, 39, had dumped the snakes because she had visited their home to hand over a routine notice about population control after a new son was born.
Villagers said the brothers had been dealing in the snake trade for years.
