Buffett and Gates begin China charity trip
US billionaire Warren Buffett arrived in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, this afternoon, to start his much-talked-about China trip during which he and Microsoft founder Bill Gates will persuade China's super rich to give their wealth to charity.
The 80-year-old Buffett will first visit the BYD Co, a Shenzhen-based Chinese automaker in which he owns a 10 percent stake. Then he will fly to Beijing to join Gates for a charity dinner on Wednesday night.
During the private dinner, Gates and Buffett, both the world's richest people, will preach philanthropic ideals to a group of nearly 50 wealthy Chinese, reported today's Global Times, a Beijing-based newspaper.
The two launched the "Gates and Buffett Giving Pledge" campaign to persuade wealthy American business leaders to give away most of their fortunes to charity during their lifetime or upon their death.
