Bulk gas purchases require registration in Kunming
RESIDENTS who buy gasoline in bulk at any gas stations in Kunming have had to register using their name since Sunday as part of heightened precautions over fuel safety in the wake of city’s terror attack on Saturday, The Metropolis Times reported today.
While residents filling their cars aren’t affected, anyone buying gas in a separate container of any size and those filling up motorcycles are required to show their ID card. Also, information on their personal contacts, purchase volume and how the fuel will be used also is recorded, the report said.
The rule does not cover diesel fuel, which is less explosive and not classified in the same category as gasoline.
Kunming has tightened citywide security after the deadly terror attack at the city’s train station on Saturday night, killing at least 29 people and injuring 143 others.
Three suspects involved in the attack have been captured, the Ministry of Public Security said yesterday. Four of the eight people carried out the stabbing spree were shot dead by police and a wounded woman was detained at the scene.
