Bungled plot to kill love rival
A STREET cleaner is in a coma and a teacher is jailed for life after the teacher hired a student to assassinate her boyfriend's lover in a bungled revenge attack.
The would-be hitman hired a black sedan and planned to run over the girl – but instead hit passing street cleaner Wang Surong, according to Guangzhou Daily today.
And the woman behind the plot was jailed for life yesterday by Shenzhen Intermediate People's Court. Zhang Xuejing, 39, from Qingdao in Shandong Province fell in love with a man surnamed Chen after her first marriage ended in divorce with a son, the report said.
But two years later Chen fell in love with a younger girl surnamed Li during a business trip to Shenzhen in south China's Guangdong Province. He then had a baby with Li.
Each woman begged Chen to marry her, and Li traveled up to Qingdao to confront Chen, only to discover his other relationship with Zhang.
Zhang's colleagues at school found out about the rivalry between the two, so Zhang decided to teach Li a lesson, the report said.
The teacher first planned to kidnap and drown Li, and discussed the idea with her student Shi Chunlong, 21, in November 2008. Zhang promised him 20,000 yuan (US$2,929) as a down payment. Shi then asked Hou Bin to find three others to take part, including driver Hu Wenqiang.
Shi, Hou and three accomplices drove more than 2,000 kilometers to Shenzhen in a rental car on November 29, staying in a hotel near Li's home.
Shi and Zhang decided they would use the car to run her over. "I thought she would only get hurt if we bumped her, instead of dead. I only wanted to give Li a lesson," Zhang said in court.
About 6am on December 5, Shi and three others waited near Li's home, to crash into her. Unfortunately they hit innocent passer-by Wang, who is still in hospital with the family owing more than 1 million yuan in treatment costs.
Police checked the surveillance tape and arrested Shi in a Shenzhen hotel next morning. Zhang was caught later at a class in the Qingdao school.
The six accomplices were ordered to pay 1.3 million yuan compensation to the victim, said Guangzhou Daily.
"Even if we get the money, with the 300,000 yuan compensation remaining it will only cover one year's treatment in hospital. What shall we do?" Wang's husband told the newspaper.
Hu, the driver, got a life sentence. Shi and Hou were sentenced to 15 years and 12 years in jail respectively while two others were jailed for nine and three years.
