Bureau chief harasses media for damage to family business
The Shenyang Industrial and Commercial Bureau director in the capital city of Liaoning Province is under attack for harassing a newspaper for publishing a negative story about the bakery run by his family, Qianjiang Evening News reported.
Two reporters exposed the quality problem of the Mianbaoxinyu Bakery in their story published in a local newspaper on June 8. On the same day, the bakery owner surnamed Liu came and quarreled with the newspaper staff. The next day, she came again with more people and beat two editors.
Her husband, Yang Xiaosong, who is the director of Shenyang Industrial and Commercial Bureau, also came with his men in two vans and asked the newspaper to hand out the two journalists as they needed a "lesson."
The incident became known on the Internet and has caused an outcry, but the Shenyang Industrial and Commercial Bureau has remained mute on the matter. Many netizens are demanding a full investigation by higher authorities.
