Bus blast claims 11 lives

THE death toll following an explosion on a minibus in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province has risen to 11 after four injured people died in hospital, local authorities said yesterday.

There were casualties both on the bus belonging to a mining company and another passenger bus, said a statement of the Shuangyashan city government.

The Zhongxing Mineral Industry Company minibus exploded at 6:30am Friday in the city's Lingdong district, catching a coach traveling opposite in the blast.

Seven of the 52 people on the vehicles died at the scene. Forty were injured.

An initial investigation by the Ministry of Public Security indicated that there may have been explosives on the minibus, the city government said.
