Bus falls into ravine, killing 16
A bus crashed into a ravine in a mountainous county in central China's Hubei Province yesterday afternoon, leaving at least 16 people dead and another person missing, local authorities said.
The double-deck sleeper coach, with 34 people on board, plunged into the river dozens of meters below the highway in Xiangshan County of Yichang City.
Fourteen people were killed at the scene and two died later in hospital.
The other 17 people on the bus were injured, most of them severely, according to Renmin Hospital in Xingshan, where they were receiving medical treatment.
The accident was reported at around 4pm, said a spokesperson with the fire brigade in Xingshan.
